Our Story So Far
The company began in February 2006, on the back of Research and Development into a heavy duty tool for lifting lino and tile adhesive from mainly bathroom floors. With the world economy in a state of flux it was decided to delay Scrape-It's launch until 2010.
The 'Scrape-It' tool was invented by Allan McLean and then refined in conjunction with Alan Kelly and consultants. Allan, a builder identified a need for such a tool after spending numerous hours chiseling lino from concrete and timber floors during the bathroom renovations he undertook.
Lifting lino (if you are familiar with the task) is a character destroying job that nonetheless has to be done when the flooring is being changed. Having spent 8 hours one day with a hammer and chisel and lifting only a 2 metre square area, Allan was convinced of the need for a tool that lifted lino easily and ultimately saving your back and your sanity!
The initial concept was simple, just take the chisel, give it steroids, a lot of weight and the task should be relatively easy. We followed up on this concept, which went to the drawing board, an engineer was consulted and a prototype made. This prototype was refined and developed over various models leading eventually to the models you see today.
Initially the primary use of the tool was targeted towards builders, linoleum and carpet layers. However, the versatility of Scrape-It has become evident with it being successfully trialed in numerous and various industrial settings. To date, 'Scrape-It' has received tremendous testimonials for its versatility and effectiveness in performing many tasks.
The decision to go global was not a hard one. Contractors all over the world suffer from the same problems when it comes to lifting lino or tiles, cutting through tree roots, clearing ground for building / landscaping projects, scraping down paint work, removing barnacles from boat hulls etc... We wanted to share the solution and save people time and money by making the hard jobs easy.
To date ‘Scrape-It’ is available in New Zealand with Australia, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany and other European Union countries being approached within the next 2 years.
The 'Scrape-It' team, are proud to introduce this tool at a global level and save people all around the world a lot of grief from jobs that need doing, but until now there has never been an easy way to do them.
